Zoning

Zoned forced air systems in Rose City, MI

One thermostat can’t keep a two-story house comfortable. Zoning splits a forced air system into areas that heat and cool on their own schedule.

Zoned forced air systems

Same furnace, finally aimed where it’s needed.

A zoned system uses motorized dampers in the ductwork, a thermostat for each zone and a control panel that tells the furnace or heat pump which areas are calling.

Upstairs gets cooling without freezing the basement. Bedrooms can drop at night while the living space stays warm.

How we do it

Zoning only works when the ducts can take it.

When one small zone calls, the system still has to move air somewhere. We check static pressure, size the zones sensibly and use a bypass or a variable-speed blower where the system needs one.

Retrofits work in most homes with accessible ductwork, and on new builds we place the dampers while the trunk lines are going in.

Good to know

You might want zoning if

  1. Upstairs is hot while the basement is cold

  2. People fight over the thermostat

  3. One side of the house bakes in the afternoon

  4. Guest rooms sit empty most of the year

How a call goes

Four steps, no runaround.

  1. Call any hour

Call (989) 305-5490 and tell us what the system is doing. We’re open 24 hours, seven days a week.

  2. We find the fault

We track down what actually failed and show you, so the fix is aimed at the real problem.

  3. You decide

Repair or replace, laid out plainly before any work starts. No pressure either way.

  4. Fixed and cleaned up

We test it, run it through a full cycle and leave the space the way we found it.

Questions

Is zoning right for your house?

Still not sure? Call (989) 305-5490 and ask. We’re open 24 hours.

Can zoning be added to my existing furnace?

Often, yes, if the ductwork is accessible and the furnace blower can handle it. We check before we quote.

How many zones do I need?

Most homes do well with two or three, usually split by floor. More zones aren’t always better.

Does zoning work with a heat pump?

Yes, with a zone panel that matches the equipment. Variable-speed systems pair especially well with zoning.
